Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease (HFMD)
HFMD is a relatively common infection viral infection that usually begins in the throat which may feature mouth sores, fever and a rash. It is most commonly caused by coxsackievirus A16, a member of the enterovirus family.
The disease is not spread from pets, but it can be spread by person to person. You may catch it if you come into direct contact with nose and throat discharges, saliva, fluid from blisters, or the stools of an infected person. You are most contagious the first week you have the disease.
The time between infection and the development of symptoms is about 3 - 7 days.
The most important risk factor is age. The infection occurs most often in children under age 10, but can be seen in adolescents and occasionally adults. The outbreaks occur most often in the summer and early fall.
Generally, complete recovery occurs in 5 to 7 days.
Antibiotics are NOT NECESSARY. HFMD is a VIRUS and does not respond to antibiotics. The oils will normally bring things back to balance within 2-3 days. Those who take antibiotics often take far longer to recover.
To prevent HFMD,
>always avoid contact with people with known illness.
>always wash your hands well and often, especially if you are in contact with people who are sick.
A wonderful daily protocol
Thieves or Purification:
dilute or apply two or three drops neat on the bottom of feet and spine every morning and night.
And diffuse one of the oils in the bedroom at night.
These oils also may be alternated for best results. (For application or diffusing)
LEMON - Drop essential oil in the water - using 5 drops for each liter/quart.
ELIMINATE the "Three Poisons" - SUGAR, CAFFEINE, and DAIRY PRODUCTS.
(Raw leafy greens have more calcium than milk and are quite easy to digest. One of the greatest reasons we become calcium deficient is that the body draws calcium to neutralize acid as it is an excellent acid-binder.)
What to do if a child contracts HFMD . . .
Once a child has HFMD, itis important to support the body in recovering.
Peppermint: dilute or apply two or three drops neat on the bottom of feet (every 15-30 minutes) will reduce the fever
Purification, Immupower, and Thieves: layer on the bottoms of the feet
Gentle Baby: dilute or apply two or three drops neat on tummy
Lemon: mix essential oil in the water, using a minimum of 10 drops for each liter of water.
NINGXIA Red - double the amount of that the child is currently drinking for a week.
If the child is not already on NingXia Red, then begin with 30ml 3 times daily.
Alkalime can support the body in becoming less acidic - Adults take 1 teaspoon Alkalime in 120ml water. Children would take less according to their WEIGHT.
It is very important to ELIMINATE SUGAR, CAFFEINE, and DAIRY PRODUCTS.

My 1 year old developed a rash on her neck and chin. Within 24 hours, the bumps started popping up on her legs, arms, hands and feet. I took her to the doctor and they diagnosed her with hand, foot & mouth disease. They said that it was viral and there was really no way to treat it. They said to expect her to run a fever, probably have diarrhea and should develop blisters in her mouth.
When I got home, I immediately started rubbing her feet with Oregano & Thieves. I rubbed her belly with Gentle Baby and I rubbed her spine with Frankincense. I did this about every 3 hours or so. The next day, most of the bumps that had started to develop were gone. Within 2 days, all of the bumps had disappeared. I continued this treatment for 5 additional days just to make sure the virus was gone. I also diffused Thieves throughout the house as I have a 2 year old and this virus is highly contagious, especially to young children.
The 1 year old never developed any other symptoms besides the bumps. Those cleared within 72 hours and the 2 year old never got it either.
